Here’s our contribution to a world wide web that overfloweth with holiday gift guides at the moment. Our guide takes a different approach and suggests 10 gifts to give your home during the holiday season. (Assuming your house isn’t on Santa’s naughty list.)
A new light fixture: One of the very best ways to make an instant impact in a space is to change out a bad light fixture for a terrific one. I’m a fan of the Etsy shop Lamp Goods, which has amazing fixtures at even more amazing prices.
A Spirit of Nashville print: Show your love for Music City with one (or more) of these posters from Anderson Design Group. Each year new designs are added and new Nashville hotspots featured. See them all here.
A throw for the couch. Stay warm with a new blanket for curling up in front of the TV or the fireplace. The “Ribbon Throw” from West Elm is a favorite.
A fresh coat of paint: We know this month is a busy one, but think how much even a newly painted bathroom might give your home a boost. Looking for inspiration? Both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams have named their Color of the Year for 2013. Benjamin Moore chose “Lemon Sorbet” while Sherwin-Williams picked “Aloe” from its Vintage Moxie color palette.
An Apple TV: This media streamer rocks because it lets you effortlessly use your television to tap into your computer, iPod, iPhone, or iPad and gives you access to your iTunes, your photos, your Netflix and Hulu accounts, and more.
A Paperwhite Narcissus: Step away from the poinsettia. The paperwhite narcissus is where it’s at as far as holiday flowers. This fragrant and easy to grow bloom is a no-brainer to trick into growing indoors during the winter months. Nashville’s Moore & Moore Garden Center on Highway 100 is practically bursting with these bulbs right now.
An Areaware Alarm Dock: If you’ve got to get up in the cold, black dawn, you might as well get woken up by an alarm clock that you like well enough not to throw against the wall. This alarm dock from Areaware is especially easy on the eyes.
New pillows for the couch. We’re nuts about this state of Tennessee pillow from catstudio, but we also love to stock up on Jonathan Adler pillows and most any of the pillows inside Nashville’s Pangea.
A yummy smelling candle. Grocery store candles just don’t hold a candle to a really good quality candle, like this Bergamot Tobacco soy candle from Archipelago Botanicals, which also has a line of holiday candles in scents like Frosted Cedar, Cinnamon Spice, and Vanilla Essence.
A really great coffeemaker. This Cuisinart model is one of the best selling on Amazon. And it’s guaranteed to make your mornings better.
