4 Home Improvement Projects For This Spring | Stratton Exteriors

I love my house. It’s a classic East Nashville ranch-style home that was built in the 1940’s. It has lots of character and charm, but every spring, there’s a checklist of items that need to be addressed in order to keep the structure, integrity, and look of my little abode up to snuff.

If you’re anything like me, here are four common issues that you may want to consider taking a look at fixing or improving as the warmer weather begins to move into Middle Tennessee with spring.

Paint

A fresh coat of paint can go along way! It not only spruces up the look of your home, but it will also protect the wood and materials that comprise your exterior walls.

When choosing a paint color, remember, the color of the paint changes as it dries. So, be sure to test your new paint color in a small, discreet section of your home’s walls.

Let it dry for several days. Then, come back and see if the color works for you.

Paint can not only protect your home, but it can improve the longevity other parts of your property as well. Hence, you may want to consider a fence painting or deck-staining project this spring as well.

Gutters

Gutters may very well be one of the most commonly overlooked aspects of home improvement, while being one of the most important features on your home. After all, gutters are responsible for moving potentially damaging water away from the structure of your house.

Our Nashville gutter repair & installation team at Stratton Exteriors recommends cleaning the gutters of your home every three months to help ensure proper drainage. You should also make sure that the slope and pitch of your gutter system is correct to help create effective drainage.

New Windows

In older homes, the windows can often be made with a single pane of thin glass. This can result in heat escaping in the winter and can increase the temperature in you home as the weather warms.

If this is the case with your home, it may be time to have replacement windows installed.

Outdoor Areas

Porch season is officially upon us. Never heard of porch season? Then you’ve been missing out on something special and this is the project for you!

An outdoor seating area, like a porch or a deck, can be a great place to entertain, or to sit back, relax, and stare at the stars on a warm summer night with a tasty beverage of your choice.
